Vince Gill is from Norman, Oklahoma and was immediately drawn to music as a young child. Gill played in several bands (mainly bluegrass genre) throughout his schooling years however after leaving school he played in a band, Boone Creek, that featured none other than the great Ricky Skaggs.

Gill eventually moved from the bluegrass genre to country music and joined the Pure Prairie League. There he released two albums before being discovered and signing a recording contract with RCA as a solo artist. While at RCA Gill released three albums (Turn Me Loose, The Things That Matter, and The Way Back Home) to little success and 1989 moved to MCA.

His album When I Call Your Name, climbed to number 2 on the country charts and featured the singles, “When I Call Your Name” and “Never Knew Lonely.” Gill also recorded “Oklahoma Swing” with Reba McEntire. The album has since been certified double platinum.

Gill has won 20 Grammy Awards, more than any other male country music artist. Gill has recorded more than 20 albums, charted over 40 singles on Hot Country Songs, and has sold more than 26 million albums. He has won 18 CMA Awards, including two Entertainer of the Year awards and five Male Vocalist Awards. In 2007 he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
