James Taylor was born in 1948, in Boston, MA, but grew up near Chapel Hill, NC. Taylor began his career after high school and formed several small groups buy they were short-lived, and Taylor fell into drug addiction.

After an equally successful third album, Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon, Taylor released several more moderately successful efforts. In 1977 Taylor released his album, JT, which included the hit singles “Your Smiling Face” and “Handy Man.”
Taylor has won five Grammy Awards, including three separate wins for Best Pop Vocal Performance: Male.
