Kane Brown is a country music singer and songwriter from Georgia. He first came to the attention of the public through social media. He began posting videos to YouTube of covers of songs by Brantley Gilbert, Billy Currington, Alan Jackson and others.
Brown is biracial, and he admits that growing up in Georgia, he was often the subject of racial slurs from his classmates.
In an interview in the Tennessean Kane states, “I just feel like I have a chance to be a role model now,” he says, adding that all he really wants is for people to look past his color, his piercings and tattoos and give him a chance.
“I just want people to know that I’m a good person, and I’m not a thug like everybody thinks I am,” Brown states. “I feel like I have my loved ones, but I have a lot of haters, too.”
Brown auditioned for American Idol and X-Factor after the success of his school friend Lauren Alaina. He advanced on the show the X-Factor in 2013, but left when producers wanted to include him in a boy band.
His single “Used to Love You Sober” was released in 2015 and started gaining Brown national attention. In December of 2016, his debut album, Kane Brown, was released. Also in 2016, he opened for Florida Georgia Line on their “Dig Your Roots” tour.
