Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta known professionally as Lady Gaga, is a singer, songwriter and actress. She studied at CAP21 through NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where she performed in theater and appeared in high school plays. She eventually dropped out to pursue a musical career. After being dropped from a contract with Def Jam Recordings, Gaga worked as a songwriter for Sony. From there, Akon noticed her vocal abilities and helped her to sign a joint deal with Interscope Records and his own KonLive Distribution.
The Fame (2008), her debut album, was a commercial success that produced widely popular singles such as “Just Dance” and “Poker Face”. Her next EP, The Fame Monster (2009) kept producing hits such as “Bad Romance”, “Telephone”, and “Alejandro”. Her second full-length album Born This Way (2011), topped the charts in more than 20 countries where it sold over one million copies in its first week. The single “Born This Way” from that album become a number #1 single. Her third album Artpop (2013) topped the US charts and included the successful single “Applause”.
In 2014, Gaga released a jazz album with Tony Bennett titled Cheek to Cheek. In 2016, she won a Golden Global Award for her acting skills in “American Horror Story: Hotel”.
She became the first woman to have four number one albums in the 2010s when her fifth studio album Joanne (2016) topped the nation’s charts.
She has sold 27 million albums and 146 million singles worldwide to date and has become one of the best-selling musicians of all time. Her achievements include twelve Guinness World Records, three Brit Awards, and six Grammy Awards.
She is known for her philanthropic work with her Born This Way Foundation, which focuses on promoting youth empowerment and combating bullying.
